چکیده

The Solar Occultation (SO) channel of the Nadir and for Mars Discovery (NOMAD) instrument scans Martian atmosphere since 21 April 2018. In this work, we present a subset NOMAD SO data measured at mesosphere. We focused on spectral range that started to be recorded in year (MY) 35. A total 968 vertical profiles carbon dioxide density temperature covering MY 35 beginning 36 were investigated until 135° solar longitude. compared 47 with co-located Climate Sounder onboard Reconnaissance Orbiter. Most show good agreement as temperatures are only 1.8 K higher, but some biases lead an average absolute difference 7.4°K. set is also simulations from Global Environmental Multiscale-Mars general circulation model. Both sets except presence cold layer winter hemisphere warm dawn Northern longitudes between 240° 360°. Five contain lower than limit CO2 condensation. Strong layers found 13.5% profiles. They mainly hemisphere, while dusks appear featureless. covers high latitudes around 60° derived non-migrating tides. Southern apparent zonal wavenumber-1 (WN-1) WN-3 tidal components maximum amplitude 10% 5% 63 km, respectively.

A test case: new retrievals of ozone at the terminator on Mars

ASIMUT, the BIRA-IASB radiative transfer code, was modified in order to take into account the changes in the atmospheric composition and structure across the martian day/night terminator. Here, we will discuss the impact of this implementation on the retrievals of ozone profiles derived from SPICAM solar occultations in the ultraviolet.

The potential of clear-sky carbon dioxide satellite retrievals

Since the launch of the Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite (GOSAT) in 2009, retrieval algorithms designed to infer the column-averaged dry-air mole fraction of carbon dioxide (XCO2 ) from hyperspectral near-infrared observations of reflected sunlight have been greatly improved. They now generally include the scattering effects of clouds and aerosols, as early work found that absorption-only r...

Combining Data from Ground-based Microwave Radiometers and Other Instruments in Temperature and Humidity Profile Retrievals

Ground-based microwave radiometry offers a new opportunity to automate upper air observations by providing information on temperature and humidity profiles as well as the integrated water vapour and liquid water amounts with high time resolution. To improve their relatively poor vertical resolution and provide a more complete picture of the vertical profile, radiometer observations can be combi...

Atmospheric modelling for NOMAD-UVIS on board the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter mission

The Ultraviolet and Visible Spectrometer (UVIS) instrument development process requires the construction of an atmospheric model to provide synthetic UV transmission spectra. We discuss the requirements of the model to enable observational limits to be found, and the potential for certain atmospheric parameters to be further constrained.

Temperature and humidity profile retrievals from ground-based microwave radiometers during TUC

Thermodynamic atmospheric profiles have been retrieved from ground-based microwave radiometers during the Temperature, hUmidity, and Cloud (TUC) profiling campaign. A variety of inversion methods is presented, in terms of requirements, advantages, and limitations. Results confirm the theoretical expectation that retrievals’ accuracy and resolution degrade steadily with height up to 3 km, then m...
